How to Get Your Home Ready for Photography and Video

Professional photography and video are often the first real impression buyers form of your home, so preparation before the shoot matters as much as any physical renovation. Clear every surface of clutter, including kitchen benchtops, bathroom vanities and bedside tables, since a clean, uncluttered space photographs far better than one filled with everyday items.

Open all curtains and blinds to maximise natural light, and turn on internal lights even during a daytime shoot, since well-lit rooms consistently appear larger and more inviting in photographs. Check that light bulbs are all working and consider replacing any that give off a yellow or dim tone.

Put away personal items such as family photos, children's artwork and visible medications, since buyers respond better to spaces that feel neutral and easy to imagine themselves living in. Pets should ideally be out of the home for the shoot, and any pet bedding, bowls or toys should be tidied away beforehand.

Outdoor areas deserve the same attention as interior spaces, since a well-presented garden, clean pool area or tidy alfresco space often features prominently in marketing. Mow lawns, sweep paths, and remove bins, hoses and garden tools from view before the photographer arrives.

Check the weather forecast and discuss timing with your agent, since bright, overcast or early morning light often produces the most flattering results for exterior shots in a coastal climate like Hervey Bay's. A short delay to capture better conditions is usually worthwhile given how much marketing depends on strong imagery.
